Our April 2026 visit used the Sirsi helicopter shuttle, one night at Kedarnath and a return flight the following morning. We did not walk the trek.
Bhim Shila, also written Bheem Shila, is the large rock behind Kedarnath Temple. Uttarakhand Tourism describes the local account that it diverted floodwater during the 2013 disaster, but does not provide a measured weight on that page. We have not verified a weight in kilograms or tonnes. We saw the rock during our April 2026 visit.
We carried our phones during the April 2026 visit and did not use or notice a phone-deposit facility. Footwear storage was available; we remember many visitors keeping shoes on until close to the temple entrance because of the cold. That observation is not permission for interior photography or wearing footwear in restricted areas. Follow temple staff instructions and carry spare warm socks.
An overnight stay gave us time for nearby shrines, evening darshan and the late-night puja without a same-day return deadline. It also meant a cold night, a very late finish and limited baggage. We did not test a same-day itinerary. Before choosing it, establish the actual return-reporting time and whether your intended darshan or ritual can fit; a helicopter ticket does not guarantee a short queue.
BKTC directs pilgrims to IRCTC HeliYatra for shuttle tickets. Use that channel to check the current booking release, required registration details, dates and available helipads. Our operator arranged our booking, so we do not describe an untested screen-by-screen process. Confirm same-day versus next-day return and inspect the ticket’s reporting and baggage conditions.
Our April 2026 ticket terms separated the refundable fare from some convenience or transaction charges. Our tour company’s ₹16,000 assistance fee had its own non-refundable terms once booked. Those were our documents, not today’s policy. Read both sets of terms, keep the operator’s cancellation confirmation and ask the booking channel how to claim. We were prepared to trek, but that is not a suitable fallback for every group.
We did not record a reliable queue duration. Our account confirms evening darshan and a late-night ritual, rather than a predictable waiting time. On arrival, check the current token or entry procedure before visiting other sights, and leave time for weather and operational delays.

Our tour operator booked the helicopter through the official booking process available at the time (IRCTC HeliYatra). We reached Sirsi early; every passenger was weighed before boarding. Helicopter movements depend on that day’s operational sequence and weather.
We stayed at Frontier Stay, a few minutes’ walk from the temple. We visited Shri Bhairavnath Temple, where the weather turned from sunshine to rain within minutes, and saw Bhim Shila and the Adi Shankaracharya statue area.
We had evening darshan, then took part in a Laghu Rudrabhishek late at night and got back to the hotel at about 01:30. The next morning we flew back to Sirsi.
